Easy The Light travels faster than Sound. So the moment the light is seen is to be taken as the Zero The time interval taken by the sound to reach the ear id the time taken by the sound to travel to you.
So Velocity of Sound/sec Multiplyed By 15 secs is the distance from the lightning source or starting point

Now you have several different answers and they do not agree. Seing the lightning is almost instant and sound travels around 600 MPH so that figures out to some p[lace about six seconds per mile. The five seconds already given is about the same. Threemiles or so away.
