i have 5 small snails ina 1 gallon and they have not touched my plant at all. i feed them occasionally. ill give mine a small shrimp pellets and they clean that up over night. If you are worried about the snail liking greens put a small peice of broccoli (or puthim in a container with broccoli over night ) if there are fish in there the snail will be busy cleaning up fish waste and uneaten food.

Try a common mystery snail sold at most pet shops.

Most Snails can't eat healthy leaves. They only eat stuff that's partially decayed, waste matter, and food left on the bottom of the bowl. They can't digest cellulose without bacteria breaking down the cell walls very well.

What you need to worry about is overpopulation. Most snails reproduce like crazy.

Generally snails will only eat the decaying parts of plants.

I've had it both ways..I had a plant that looked somewhat like a fern..My snails chowed on that puppy..Ate every last bite of it..
Now I have a plant that has leaves on it..Looks like a house plant..There are a few little bites out of it..But very few..
I did however remove my adult snails and kept the baby..Which is grown now..
