i've heard of some older tractors that you start on gas, then switch to kerosene or diesel after it warms up. some of the features needed for this are: fuel injection, a compression ratio that is a little high for a gas engine and a little low for a diesel, 2 tanks, and spark plugs that are only used when it is running on gas-they could cut off completely once it is switched to diesel-or not.

If it was a compression-ignition (diesel) engine, it already would be able to burn several kinds of fuel! As far as spark ignition, nothing else is as thin and burns as quickly as gasoline to work in a spark ignition vehicle, except maybe pure alcohol, which requires very high compression, and isn't very efficient, or cost-effective.
