It's varied and eclectic, like the city as a whole. There are some hot, trendy clubs but also some great neighborhood dives. See link below for some options!

Truly something for everyone in H-Town! Hope this helps!

With over 3,000,000 in the area we have everything from Bible Revivals to the Fetish and Fantasy Ball. The trick is to know where to look.

Most of the dance clubs are downtown. Many good bars are out on the Richmond strip. There is a corner up in the Heights where Fitzgeralds is that is a very happening spot for the music scene. Sportsbars are everywhere, and they range from the family casual dining place that has a few TVs tuned to ESPN all the way to the kind of "sportsbar" where the waitresses don't wear clothes. I moved here when I was in my late 20s so I wasn't into the loud dance music scene as much as the "take a girl out for a really good microbrew" scene.

There are tons of good places to eat. I think we have more resturants per capita than any other city in the country. Since we have many different ethnic neighborhoods you can get a lot of really good ethnic food too. I know some great Greek places, some very good Tex Mex, some excellent Chinese food, and a good sushi bar. The German place I used to go to got bought by some Iranians (!!) and they really let the place go, and it isn't nearly as good as it used to be.

The best guide to nightlife in Houston is The Houston Press

Check it out, it can tell you everything I can't.

One last note... if you are part of the young professional crowd, we have a very active social scene, with lots of charity fundraising events, ect. There are a lot of former debutants here who's husbands or ex-husbands or family have serious oil money, so they keep the "$50 a plate" "$500 a plate" and even the "$5,000 a plate" fundraising dinner circuit alive and well.

Houston has many areas to see as far as nightlife. All are good! Downtown, The Village (Rice Village), Mid Town, Galleria (Post Oak), The Heights, and now the now the Mayerland (AKA The new Montrose) are are great places to check out. These would be places that burb dwellers (Katy, Woodlands, Pearland) would call "in town".

The city is huge, and a meshpot of cultures -- so there's truly something for everyone. From salsa dancing to jazz, from rock to country, to live sporting events, the arts, or festivals...there are a vast number of choices. If you're just in town for the weekend....and you're staying in the inner city area...you're in luck. Downtown is hopping...and so is the Inner Loop Area...inside Loop 610. The 2 publications you should check out are the Houston Chronicle (mainstream newspaper) and the Houston Press (more artsy in content).

Great places to eat, listen to live music, something for everybody. Rooftop poetry slams under the stars. Outdoor coffee shops everywhere. If you like night clubs, it's a mecca. Lots of free live music in courtyards downtown and in nearby Galveston.
