This depends very much on what kind of college they enter. About half the college students in America are in Community Colleges. They have a high drop out rate. In the upper level schools the rate of graduation is very high. For instance, in the Ivies, Duke, Stanford, MIT, etc about 90per cent of the kids finish their BS or BA in four years. And at other high level top 100 schools the percent is also quite high although there may be more students who take longer - 5 years or 6 years.

Many students must drop out of school for economic reasons, but 5 years or 10 years or 20 years later they return to school and finish their degrees.

I would say about 45 % don't finish and drop out.
