Your assumption is that this country was founded on something other than religious principles--and that religion is now somehow dangerous.
All WRITTEN law follows basic Judeo-Christian law. The rule of law (i.e. the U.S. Constitution) was based on the Ten Commandments. God is named in the FIRST paragraph of the Declaration of Independence. Is this morally reprehensible?
If you believe that religious zealots need to be fought, than I suggest you read 'The Marketing of Evil'. It is fully annotated, and discusses this subject in depth. I would also suggest you examine you own ideas of religion, and why you feel compelled to fight those who you consider different.

What danger is posed by religious people in the US? We support and defend the Constitution as written. Will we be blindly supporting all of the left's PC demands regarding what they THINK the Constitution says? Probably not.
Feel free to criticize religion. We welcome constructive criticism. We're not Muslims who riot and burn down embassies when we are criticized or questioned.

I speak here as a liberal.
There is nothing wrong with religion. It is the people who think that their religion is the only religion, and that everyone should be forced to exposure to their religion, who are the problem.
Practice whatever religion you like. I truly support those who have faith in any organized religion; for a lot of people, it gives their life a foundation they would not otherwise have. It's a grounding force in their lives, and there's nothing bad about it.
But keep it away from me. I have my own beliefs, morals, values and relationship with God. I don't need or want anyone else's guidance with respect to whom I should worship and how I should worship them.
Extremists of ANY kind are dangerous.

By religious fanatics you are referring to people who are concerned about their country and ensuring their young are raised with moral standards to do what is right in their life for not only themselves, their community and their country? Are these the nuts you are think are a danger to humanity? Yes they are a danger indeed.

We on the "religious right" aren't driving our minivans into crowds of socialist war protesters and detonating them with our kids strapped in the back. So where's the comparison??

The bad thing about the Religious Right is that they and their hateful views are so publicized that many people have begun to think that they epitomize what Christianity is all about. What many people don't know is that not all Christians are fundamentalists and not all Christians share their hateful views.

I don't know if we should criticize religion but we should not let any corrupt person have a strangle hold on religious morality, to use for their own evil purpose.
