i know someone name virginia and we call her "gin". if you make the nickname and start calling the baby that eveyone else will follow no matter what the baby name really is.
my brother name is william and since he was a baby we called him "BJ" so thats what everyone calls him and he's 12 now. so set the nickname you want, and eveyone will follow.

I have never heard Ginny as a nickname for Virginia. People may call her Virgie. Give her a nickname that fits her personality and insist that everyone else call her by her full name. Virginia is a beatiful choice! Or her middle name could be a good name to "go by"

My mom's name is Virginia, and she goes by her middle name. Most people don't even know it's her first name unless she has a reason to tell them... I've heard both Virgie and Ginny as nicknames for different Virginias, but they were very old, so I associate those nicknames with older ladies. Just pick a nice middle name! :)

This is a very pretty name, and you can insist that she is called Virginia. This was my grandma's name, and it was shortened to Virgie, but personally, I like Ginny better, and wondered why my grandma couldn't have been called that instead.
You could shorten it to Gia if you wanted, which would be very cute.

As long as you don't call her Ginny and raise her by not calling her that, she'll tell people as she gets older she doesn't wnat to be ginny...My name is Lacey but I don't go by Lace because I prefer Lacey...I have a cousin named Lucas and they don't call him Luke because his parents always call him Lucas, and a friend named Jennifer that goes by Jennifer or Jen because she has told people that Jenny is not her style...So it's all in what YOU as the parent calls her, if you like Virginia and need a nick name call her Nia (knee-ah) or Gina.

There are not any other ways to shorten that name....soo if you do not like Ginny then maybe choose another name. And you are correct it is hard not to shorten your little ones name and use the full name always.
My youngest daughter's name is Emma....and even with that short name it still gets shortened by many in the family to Em.

Ginny is always better than Virgi or Virgin or something like that, keep that in mind as well, when you name her Virginia. I do not think it is weird to call her Virginia, if that is her name.

I personally think Ginny is cute. Then again, it's not my opinion, but yours that matters in the long run. If someone starts to call her Ginny, just simply correct them. Your daughter will too over time. My eldest sons name is Michael, and that's how I introduce him to everyone. If anyone calls him Mike, he tells them politely that it's not his name.

Ginny is better than Virgie. Or the other mean alternatives kids will come up with. Sorry, I like it, too. But my husband scratched alot of the names I liked because of teasing potential. Such as Lucas, rhymes with Mucus.

Not if you shorten it first! I know a little girl whose name is Cynthia, but everyone calls her "Tia" instead of "Cyndi" which is the usual shortening. Her parents started the Tia so nobody would call her Cyndi.
You could call her "Nia". Virginia is a lovely name, by the way.
