That's what people think! Judging from appearance, all the asian look the same. Only we asian ourself can different Chinese, Japanese and Koreans. i personally think all the south americans look the same. Somehow my venezuela friend doesnt think so. In fact, Chinese,Japanese and Koreans are the Han people. No doubt if we are the same. Basically we have the same ancestors thousand years ago...

Obviously they are three separate peoples with three separate cultures and geography. I'm not arguing that, but...
We can't tell the difference. I'm sure that to a born and raised Korean, a Canadian, a Brit, and myself could all be the same people.
I'm curious, and I'm going to check back on this to find an answer, but aside from geography, history etc. What should a typical western like myself know so that I can differentiate between, the Asian peoples?

Because you are all considered as Asians. And although you all may have your own country, you're still categorized as Asians. It's the same for Black people. African, Haitians, Jamaicans, etc. are still considered Black people. It matters to you all because you have your own Country Identities. But if you live in the United States, although separate in living, you're still all grouped together. Puerto Ricans, Spanish, Portuguese, Colombians.......all grouped together. We as people may not like the other or the fact that we're being grouped together. I say lump us all in one pot........We'll make a great soup! Rice on the side of course. You've got to watch those carbohydrates!

Ignorance. They've never taken the time to realize there are substantial differences. They see a basic coloring and appearance, and make an assumption. It's the same reasoning behind, "All black people look the same."
