Bleeding through a pregnancy is NOT a period.

Everyone apparently seems to know someone who continued to have periods throughout their pregnancy or some similar such story but the reality is that it's a very VERY slim possibility. And if you did bleed it wouldn't be a period, since a period is the shedding of the endometrium and your endometrium is required to sustain a pregnancy. The endometrial tissue would have to come out through your cervix and if you were pregnant ths would be sealed tight with mucus. It may be possible to spot from pressure on the cervix, or have a bit of old blood that was hanging about suddenly come away or something - but a full on period? No way.

It doesn't happen to "some" women, it happens to hardly any women.

If you suspect you are pregnant and then go on to have a normal, full on bright red slippery flowing blood period that lasts for several days then it's safe to assume you are actually not pregnant.

But if you're not convinced, take a test.

This girl I know just had her baby 3 nights ago and she didn't know she was even pregnant until she was 7 months!! She had her period the 1st 6 months. I don't understand how people claim not to know they are pregnant until the baby is almost here or here! How do you NOT feel it moving inside you?! But the answer is yes, some women do have periods every month like clockwork the whole 9 months they are pregnant!!

Yes....some women do still have their period while pregnant. My grandma had her period for the first 7 months of pregnancy with each of her 3 children.

I also knew a girl in school who had no idea she was pregnant until almost 7 months because she still had a period.

It isn't normal. That's the first thing I will tell you.
Some women get "bleeding" that they mistake for a period. I was told by a doctor that if you have actual red bleeding that you need to come straight to the his office, if you think you may be pregnant.
He told me that some woman get light bleeding for a few days, or brown discharge in place of their period. He told me that is normal.
But if your period is regular, such as the timing, normal flow 4-6 days you probably aren't pregnant.

No, you can not have a period and be pregnant, but you can still have some bleeding that can be confused with a period. It can be due to implantation of the egg early on, and for all sorts of other reasons, but will typically be lighter than your normal period. Hope that helps!

Physically impossible..the whole point of a period is to get rid of everything that's NOT needed when an egg DOESNT implant. Implantation bleeding is common, but after that there should be no blood. A real period would result in what we know to be a miscarriage. As for women who say they had their periods for half or even all of their pregnancies, I would like them to explain HOW blood passes from your uterus and through your cervix when a mucus plug is firmly in place to block off your uterus...You can have bleeding from rough sex or a cervical tear, but again that is cervical and NOT from your uterus.

No, but you can be pregnant and have abnormal bleeding that you mistake for a period.
