We moved to this house last April. Last summer I found too many diffrent insects in our yard that sometimes were coming inside of our house most of them were big spiders, large crickets and some other kinds. When winter started all of them disappeared but I am worried about this summer because we will have a baby in our home I dont like to have the insects inside and outside too. What kind of chemical will be effective? can we use them by ourselves or need a specialist?

I could understand the squeemishness of having insects in your home, but trying to kill them all outside is taking this a bit too far. As far as the home is concerned, use a portable vacuum cleaner to suck out spiders and thier webs, especially where you have corners and where walls meet cielings. Doing this once a month will keep most spiders at bay. Vacuum on the outside, around doors and windows to keep other spiders from migrating into the home. As far as your yard, please don't poison your environment for the sake of eliminating the bugs in your yard. This is thier natural habitat and elimination of everything means every time you or your child go outside, you will be exposed to these toxins, and carry them into your home and clothing. Encourage birds and beneficial insects to your yard, and everyone wins. Spread a blanket for your toddler to crawl on rather than the grass. this puts a layer between you and the bugs in the yard.

Leave the chemicals to the professionals. Especially with babies and toddlers in the house. The best thing to do is keep the yard mowed and free of brush and clutter. Trim back and clear out anything overgrown. Eliminate the bugs nesting sites. And weather seal your home. Make sure all the doors and windows close tight. Make sure all the window screens fit tight and don't have holes in them. Caulk and weather strip anywhere it's needed. This will help keep the bugs outside and reduce your energy bills. If you do put anything on the yard, water or wait for a good rain before you let the kids out to play.

Many insects are beneficial. This is obviously a new lifestyle for you, where you have to share your yard with wildlife. If you kill all insects you'll give your family and pets cancers, and in turn kill off all the birds and frogs, which I am sorry, are a part of your life now. Even snakes, though you may never see one. Plus, you'll end up killing only the good things, and be left with the monsters like cockroaches.

A cricket is not going to hurt your baby, but a poison will.

I use Diazanon in my yard, to control insects. It comes in flakes, powder, and pellets, from different manufacturers. I would use the flakes or pellets, as they last longer (usually 90 days). When you get control of the bugs, the spiders will go away, since they eat other bugs.

I understand you not wanting to have insects in your home, but when you use chemicals in your yard, they'll come into your home on your shoes. The chemicals are worse for your child than the insects.

You could try putting up some bat houses to invite them to come.

For chemicals, I'd call TruGreen Chem Lawn. They take care of bugs.
