you have to mix mineral oil with wood-stove or fireplace ashes into a paste, then rub the stain very hard till it disappears and repeat it a few times after that..... allot of work , but it does work if you keep doing it.

I have heard the mayo idea but normally, the finish on the wood is ruined. The hot mug draws moisture out of the wood and into the finish (poly, shellac, varnish). You may need to take some fine steel wool (not a soap pad) and rub the finish until the stain is gone. Then use a furniture polish or wax to bring back the shine. You may need to use whatever the original coating is to match it.

Easy, just use White toothpaste, not gell variety. rub it on, then wipe it off with a soft cloth then polish as usual. Thats it ! Good Luck !

Try rubbing mayonnaise on the spot, let set for a little while, then wipe dry. I never tryed this but read it somewhere a long time ago.
