I might be entirely ignorant but I've heard Ghz of a processor is how fast it processes information and it seems like many of the dual core processors only reach around 2.6 Ghz max is it because its actually double that because as the name is a dual core its doing twice what the Ghz say. I dont know anyway thanks for your answers.

Without getting too technical the core processor is much more effiecient in all ways than previous intel processors. It uses less power, produces less heat and runs faster at lower clock speeds. It has to do with pipelines and cpu architecture. To get into it more deeply try doing a web search for processor reviews. Most will have a list of the ways it is different. Try www.tomshardware.com

well, first of all dual core processors have 2 cores (DUH!) which means they can work at up to double the speed. also, they are newer, so they are better made and use less energy and probably use better processing methods so they can do more in less cycles (example: a tiny fan that rotates really fast and a huge fast that doesn't rotate that fast. of course the huge fan is going to make more breeze even though it is spinning slower. same with dual core processors, even though they have slower speed, most of the time they are faster then single core).

the answer is in different way of measurement + cpu's memory ( cache) + frequency ( fsb)
example:( only theory)
pentium d 630 . 3,2 ghz 533 mhz fsb , 512 kb cache
vs.
pentium m 840 , 3,2 ghz 800 mhz fsb , 1 mb cache

or:
amd sempron 3200 , 333mhz fsb , 128 cache
vs
amd athlon64 3200 , 800 mhz fsb , 512 cache

...it's much more to explain , but in a simple way , not only ...x,x ghz is real power of the cpu!

Now that there are two cores they don't need to be as fast as the single core ones from before.
