I'm normally pretty good one football games but this one is a killer. I'm playing on the 'regular' setting having obviously done 'amateur' one but I still get beat by crappy teams when I get to the main tournament (world cup). Its a great game but I wish I could master it! any tips!

Yeah I know the R1 button seems like your best friend but it can screw you up too because you have less control over the ball. Try using R2 more often to keep the ball close to your feet. Pass the ball around too, don't just run up the pitch as soon as you get it. Use the through ball (triangle) only when it has a good chance of reaching your player and don't forget to use chip through ball, it can be great if there's an opponent between you and your player running into the box.
Other than that, try out the training, it's pretty good.
