I have a large bamboo plant (several shoots of it) Is there a way to separate the roots without hurting it so I can put some of the shoots into seperate pots?
I think that it has outgrown it's pot and I don't want to upgrade to a larger one because it is big enough!

I also read that you can trim the roots so it stops growing but stays alive? How do I do that?

If you know of any sites that would help me with in depth info on how to go about doing these things please add!

Bamboo is HIGHLY invasive! Although you have mentioned putting it in other pots, never let it touch your yard! lol. If you do, you will develop a huge jungle that you will never get rid of. Bamboo is also highly resillient. You can do almost anything you want to it and it won't die. Just dig out of the pot what you want to get rid of... You don't even have to be careful with the roots at all.

bamboo is in the grass family and virtually impossible to kill. Just use a sharp trowel and cut straight down through the root ball. Then repot the new separated plants.

I would unpot the plant and gently separate the roots and then cut where you want. Then you could replant what you took off and give some to your friends. What a nice gift!
