Could be nothing, minor, or major.
If it is just once and a trace,it may just have been a ruptured blood vessel, not to worry.
If it continues, or is leaking out of his penis, it may be serious.
See a doctor ASAP.

I have the same problem, blood is not visible but shows up when urine is tested. The urologist sent me to the hospital for tests, and did more tests in his office. Turned out to be nothing, he said some people show blood for no real reason. Although having a scope inserted into the penis so that he could look inside my bladder wasn't the most exciting moment of my life, it sure was memorable!

There's not really anything people can tell you here that's not going to make you worry with a question like that. He's got his appointment and he'll find out what it really is - just see that he drinks water and his diet's good until then- that never hurts anyone. But just calm down, because worrying about it will make him worry even more. If he doesn't have other alarming symptoms, then that's probably why they're going to wait until Monday to test. So you two have a good week & weekend and let the docs tell you what it really is.

Once I had an injury to my kidney while playing sports and I had the same for a couple of days. Then it went away... However I know there are way too many reasons something like this can occur. Just google it...
