I did just write a question about my blood pressure. I was addmitted with my first child due to high blood presure. I am monitering it here at home and it has been sitting at around 130/92 alittle higher and sometimes a little lower. I have heard not to go to the hospital untill it is like 160/100 I think that is too high. Anyone have any advice for me?

I did not read your first question yet. But I do have some advise for you as a Doula this is what i would tell a woman i was helping...
Drink a 8 ounce glass of water, go lay down on your left side for 30 minutes with all the lights off and no sound. Take deep breaths relaxing your body as you would in early labor. Then when you feel the most relaxed check your pressure. * Have it by you*
If it is higher then 130/92 call your doctor.

Because of the first child you are high risk and they must have you down as that on paper. On your next visit you need to have a plan. Ask the nurse or doctor when to call and what you can do in such times of need.

Good luck hun and congrats.

If you are at all concerned please call in to the hospital and they will advise you. Please realise though that doing you BP measurements yourself may not be accurate and the more stressed out you get the higher it will go!

Please, sit down, chill out, have a cup of tea and test it in a couple of hours. If it's still high, a quick phone call would probably be best. Remember if it's high, it's an issue but not necessarily an emergency!

Good luck!

92 is a bit high for a diastolic, since you have a history of pregnancy induced hypertension, check yourself for other symptoms, are you getting headaches? are you retaining alot of flud? (press your fingertips on your ankle and you'll see white from the pressure, if it goes away immediatly you are not holding fluid, but if if stays white for a bit then you are bloated. are you seeing anything odd in your vision? lights, sparkles etc? if you have even one of these plus the blood pressure you are recording you need to contact your OB/GYN NOW! pre-eclampsia is dangerous and can lead to life threatning problems like placental abruption and eclapmsia. also since you are 40 weeks if you are having anything like this going on, they'll get you delivered ASAP.
hope this helps

Usually they recommend going to the hospital if you start seeing stars or having blurry vision. I would definitly tell my doctor though if my diastolic pressure (the lower number, when the heart is at rest) was as high as 90.

I didn't know your history. If I were you I'd call your doctor right away and lie down on your left side. 160/100 is way too high. You would be at risk for pre-eclampsia at those #'s.

have you spoke with your doctor about this. and have you tried laying on your left side for 15mins then retaking it to see if it goes down? i normally have low blood pressure but it has been rising since i got pregant. When it goes up high i lay down on my left side as directed by my doctor and it usually goes down. but you should at least talk to your doctor about this.
