Hi. I'm a Manager in the NHS working for Breast Care. If your GP was concerned he would have asked for a 'two week wait' referral (you are slightly outside the guidelines (need to be over 30)) but he could have insisted, so I assume he hasn't. You must therefore have been sent as a routine which the wait time as you stated is 13 weeks for an appointment. The fact that you have just had a baby could mean it is either a cyst or just a fatty lump due to breast feeding. It may be worth you contacting the department and asking for a cancellation, my staff are excellent and always offer these to ladies who are particularly anxious. Your age is in your favour and hopefully there will be no family history either. You could also ask to speak to one of the breast care nurses who can talk to you about your symptoms and tell you what will happen on the day etc which may make you feel better, you are bound to worry and any lady would but the majority of patients ARE FINE!!! Ring them ask for a cancellation and try and get seen sooner.

Take a breath! I know a lump in the breast can be very frightening. My mom has had several lumps removed, but none were cancerous. Just because thers a lump doesnt mean its malignant. A lot of times, its just a cyst and they can take it right on out. Obviously this is what your doc thinks it is or she would have gotten you in sooner. **hugs**

Please do not panic. By feeling the lump your doctor can tell if it is a tumour. Tumours in the breast have a stem and it's obvious your lump does not have one. It's probably a cyst which, when pushed from side to side the doctor can tell it's not attached. He/she is sending you for a mammogram as a precaution but because he/she isn't unduly concerned your appointment is some way off. Please do not worry I'm sure it's nothing.

Hi, I found a small lump too, went to the docs who sent me to the hospital, where i was examined, xray and some fluid was drawn. Thankfully it was all clear and was just a lump brought on by hormones and i was given the option to have it removed or left alone, so i choose to have it removed. Try not to worry and good luck

i dont know what to say.
my grandad died of lung cancer. he worked in the mines for decades and was old.
my nephew had lukimia when he was three, he's now a bratty 15 year old, smoking cancer sticks..
my mid 20s cousin had cancer, with a pig of a fiancee. she later climed up a cliff for charity. she's now living in a posh part of cornwall, married to someone else and VERY happy.
when i was taking my sociology gcse mocks, that every day, my friend went for tests because he had a lump near his arm, they lost the results, making him wait longer for the results. i was terrified and crying through the whole test, no idea how he was feeling. and there was nothing to worry about = ) he's fine.
i dont know how to help. i can just wish you luck and tell you that even though you probably wont have cancer this will only make you stronger. my heart and thought's are with you non the less.

Don't panic! Judging from some of the above answers hopefully all will be ok, but you do have the right to a second oppinion (and a 3rd ...) so go back and ask to see a different dr to help put your mind at rest - explain to them why you're so worried (I would be too!) and hopefully she'll be able to explain things better or get your appointment quicker if she thinks that's needed. Good luck - hope you're ok xx

I think you must listen to your doctor. You were told there is nothing to be concerned about.
If you cannot wait for the results why don't you pay your own money to be seen early.

You can't know anything for sure until all the test results are in. If you do have cancer then you know you have an enemy to fight. It is uncertainty that is the fearful thing.

First of all, relax! Your doctor knows what she is doing but if you are still unsure, get a second opinion.
Maybe phone NHS direct for advice.
