Well, it may be due to horomones.
If you are a female and you are taking hormones or birth control, this can be a contributor. If your condition worsens with exposure to sun (it becomes darker, more noticeable) then this is likely the culprit.
Talk to a doctor about decreasing hormones or some other form of birth control if this turns out to be what you are describing..
It is irritating, but harmless... just discoloration.

Your lips could be naturally that way. If not, could have been affected by the sun - use a UV cut lip balm, it will help dramatically

I never seen a person that has dark lips because of smoking....maybe it is just your natural pigment.

Well, you don't smoke, have they been that dark since you were younger? maybe it's inheritage from your older relatives. Try to find out.

maybe these are your traits just like dimples some have it some don't .
