If so, why? No snotty, lippy answers from neocons who think they're clever - I'm looking for well-reasoned responses here. I will treat your answers with respect if they are not childish.

Which party the current sitting president belongs to is irrelevant. Both are beholden to the people for their election.

No.

Maybe we have differing definitions of "the people", but as far as I can tell, the political process is similar in both parties.

Run to the fringe during the primary, run to the center during the election.

Once in office, you must respond to pressure from interest groups regardless of your party affiliation. Especially if you want to build coalitions around the things YOU want to accomplish.

Answerer #1 forgets the New Deal, Johnson's Great Society, and Hillary Clinton's attempt to reform healthcare. Whatever you think of those programs, there has been no comparable Republican attempt to harnass the power of the government.

I'm a neocon who thinks I'm clever.

You be the judge of whether my answer is snotty or lippy.

I think that sometimes it does seem that the democratic pov is more of an obligation to the people. Democrats are more in "the now" versus the future. Democrats tend to focus on issues that The People have currently and in the past where the republican pov seems to be more focused on the future of the country as a whole. How other countries are involved with us, the future of American citizens socially and economically, etc. Imho only.

Btw, "No snotty, lippy answers from neocons who think they're clever-" somewhat contradicts your claim to be respectful and well-reasoned.

It's like our public is in a permanent (or at least long term) moral dilemma... on the one hand they love the Liberal presidents.. they almost always have high ratings (Clinton, Kennedy, Roosevelt) but alas there is usually some moral paradox that surrounds them.. which makes the public swing to a Republican leader for a little while... it's a very odd cycle looking at it historically.

Yes, it is already in the name - they are democratic people, believe in the power of the people. Republicans believe in the power of the state.

That would be no. They are more beholden to the campaign contributors as are most politicians, Rebuplican or Democrat.
