You need a new latch. It probably won't work without a new one as most have a contact to allow the washer to operate in the spin cycle as long as the door is closed. This is concerning a latch problem. If the door has been leaned on, you may need new hinges.

Could be door catch,door seal that's come adrift or door hinge. Cant do better then that without seeing it sorry

if you have a top loading maching you need a lid switch and latch assembly, if you have a front loader take it back as soon as possible,issues with them front loaders.
