I am going on a carnival cruise in July with my husband and three kids-6,7,12. We are going to do the Dolphin Encounter, but was wandering if we should book something else for that afternoon and the next day. Which excursions are worth your money?

Check Carnival's website, it is generally cheaper to book on your own, but I only do that if I'm very familiar with the city, they may take you to Senior frogs but if you want all the details ask your cruise line.

Personally, and this is my personal opinion. I wouldn't book anything through your cruise, you will find if you go off on your own, you will spend HALF and I mean HALF the money that you would have spend if you buy it through your cruise ship.

Going through the ship is MORE TIME and MORE MONEY. You can rent a car on your own, take yourself to Chakaanab park do the dolphin encounter, spend time there, snorkel there, drive around the island which is a must because its beautiful, take in some Cozumel beauty all for the fraction of the cost of what Carnival would charge you.

You can rent a taxi right from port down to Executive car rental. Executive will give you a map. It is so dang easy to get around the island.

If you like to snorkel go to Dzul-Ha you can rent gear from there for real cheap and they have a snack bar. It is worth it.

There is also a FREE beach club north of Chak Park where you can play and take in the sun for free.

If you want more information you can email me, but I would do Cozumel on your own, not waste your money doing excursions through Carnival, or your time. Once your on your own and you see people from the ship down a tour with the ship you will know why you went on your own!!!

It depends on what you like. Snorkeling is fun, glass bottom boat may not be as cheap, but if you have non-swimmers or those afraid of the water in your group...also, the sub can be fun - but expensive. There is a "pirate adventure" that is a bit much, but the kids would like it. There are boat trips to a private beach where a meal is served and folks can swim/snorkel. You can rent a car for pretty reasonable and drive around the island, stopping where ever you want. Cozumel isn't that big and there are neat little shops and such around the back of the island, as well as a light house to climb.
Have fun!

If you like Snorkeling or Scuba diving, try an island near Cozumel called Garrafon, people say it is lovely and it is very family orientated... Otherwise you can take a boat to Playa del Carmen by the Mexican Coast and go to Xel-Ha it is an Ecopark, it has everything you can imagine to have a lot of fun, it is not a Water Park, it is sort of an Eco reserve where you can swim with the dolphins, swim or take a lifesaver and let yourself go through a river...
