I think the most important issue right now is health care; everyone makes a big deal about social security, but the health care crisis is coming a lot sooner (assuming you don't believe that our current rates of uninsured count as a crisis already). I'll be looking for a candidate who has a plan to do something about health care. (In the presidential race, that would be the democratic candidates and Romney)

Healthcare.
It doesn't have to become national either. But clearly something needs to be done rather soon or we're all going to end up w/o basic healthcare.
Premiums go up, co-pays go up, insurance companies are cutting too many vital meds from their lists. A lot of companies don't even offer healthcare anymore.
And you're sorely mistaken if you don't think this is going to get worse before it gets better.

It may sound crude, but I go by the crap-factor. As in how much crap are they flinging around in order to get elected. To me it does not matter what they promise in thier campaign, its their actions before and during office that make it or break it for me. They have to walk their talk.
