Is there a good UK website to work out your dress size. I fear i may have crept up to a UK14 and wanted to have a look. Well, most of me is a 12, I think the middle bit forgot and went up a size ;)

Just to add, I'm a uk 12, not a Us 12, and Im so heart broken that Walter couldn't handle a women with nice curves ;)

My point is really to find out if there is a uniform guide size atall in the uk, as it does differ so much brand to brand, and also that all my wardrobe is in a size 12 and fits me fine, yet recently new clothes in a 12 dont fit so well. I would rather buy a 14 and adjust/ tailor it to my waist size ;) I wouldn't wear clothes too tight, not an attractive look, and it just makes you appear bigger!

Thank you for answers so far.

Your dress size will depend on what brand of clothing you are trying on. There is no sizing regulation in the fashion industry so size & fit will vary from brand to brand. Many designers create for a certain body type and many also employ the use of "vanity sizing". That's when the dress is more of a size 12 but is labeled as an 8 (for example). It's pretty much used so people will feel better about themselves and buy more clothes from vanity sized brands. Crazy huh?

In the end, try not to worry about the actual size you are trying on. The important thing is that the dress fits correctly. Too many people buy clothing items that don't fit correctly because they are "going to lose some weight" or they just can't handle the fact that they're are having to buy a larger size than they mentally think they should be wearing.

A good option is to purchase a dress that fits you best, even if it is loose in some spots, then you can have a seamstress take in the areas that are too big so it will fit properly. That can be done w/nearly any clothing item. If you have a friend that can do the alterations for you have them go shopping w/you so you can find outfits that can be easily altered. A proper fit makes all the difference.

Different clothing companies cut their clothes differently than others. In some shirts I can wear 2x, others require 4x. You may not have gone up in size at all. Check with a decent tailor and get an approximation.

you should go up a size. nothing shows unsightly pounds like tight clothes. or sometimes changing the style of the out fit . two piece instead of a one piece dress. flowing tops are in . color and prints will camouflage a couple extra pounds. jewelry is distracting.take the belts off and don't tuck in a shirt.higher heels will help no flats.
