I start work at 7am and work through till 1pm. Then off for the afternoon and return at 5pm - 7pm. Every day. Saturdays I work from 7am till 2 pm, and Sundays are off. Am I working too many hours here?? I am not allowed to take a day off in the week for any reason, as if I do, it has to be worked in... like when??? They won't take it as unpaid leave or deduct from my annual leave. My job discription is Multi-Talented, as I run the house, am a live in Intensive Care trained nurse, (I look after an elderly couple who are also celebrities) a trained beautician ,who also does her face every day, and chef at night between 5 pm and 7pm. I am also their personal taxi driver sometimes. I really need to look for another job, but it is difficult, as I live in, so it will mean another job and accomodation. Any advice out there for me?? Or can you offer me a job... cv on request lol.

1st off, most employment laws are based on the state that you are in. Federal employment laws state that anything over 40hours per week, depending on the career field, must be paid overtime or time and a half.

2nd, Do they pay well? Being as that you are a live-in "aid" and that they provide a place for you to live and, assuming all benefits, your pay should equal out to that of most other employment oppourtunities or better with benefits.

3rd, at present, you are working 47 hours per week which are not that many considering that you could be in other positions working as many as 60 for less pay.

4th, you are also given "time-off" everyday(4 hours) to complete the tasks that you want to do and on saturday and sunday, and off on saturday night to party.

My advice...you go. Stick with it until they croak as long as you like what you're doing. If you're bored with your job then leave and find another.

Did you opt out of the working time directive? If not then you cannot be asked to work more than 45 hours per week.

I am afreaid that only reduces your week by about 2 hours.

Best option is to find a new job. Try working as a housekeeper for some other celebrities who are a bit fitter and are out of the country a lot!!
