i just got a new chiuaua pup. is there anything important i should know

Hi, as a mulitple chihuahua owner the one key thing I've learned is they are one owner dogs. Other words, they prefer to bond with one owner and rely HEAVILY on that person to feed, nurture and love them. Not to mention to keep them warm. Chihuahuas have very high metabolism and young pups often times will experience drops in their sugar. Buy nutri-cal from your vet and a dab on your finger pulls them right out of their spell. They will tend to want to sleep with you. Again... to keep warm. That high metabolism and thin skin makes 'em cold. Just be careful not to kick them during the night or to roll on them. I keep dog shirts and sweaters in my home and my chi's will go an get theirs out of their basket when they want it on or will dig under a blanket on the couch. Always look under the blankets before sitting down or you will crush them as they are very small.
Chi's are barkers by nature. Don't be to harsh on them if they don't listen to your commands to stop barking and never hit your baby. They have little bones. They may not like your significant other kissing you good night or goodbye as you belong to the Chi and no one else. Just make sure from the time they are a pup that you hand them off to other people to hold so that they become more socialized.

They tend to be stubborn, but then again they are so darned cute! Make sure and provide excellent vet care, and hire a personal trainer. Don't use the group classes. You'll spend a little more money (not that much), and with some work on your part you'll get compliments on how well-behaved your dog is!
