UK advice preferably:

I'm going for a job and need to read up on accounting, namely financial reconciliation and audit requirements. Can anyone give me a link to a relevant page? Can you explain the basics of FR and AR off the top of your head?

I also need to learn about any major integrated accounting package. Does Excel qualify as an integrated accounting package? Can anyone provide me with a link to a website that explains how one works in depth, and perhaps lets you use it?

I don't mean to be rude, but do you realise you're asking for information that normally takes at least 3 years of studying to acquire?!

A reconciliation is - The reviewing and adjusting of the balance on your documentation to match that on your trial balance. For example – you would need to reconcile the balance on your bank statement to that on your trial balance, taking into account items like cheques that you have written but have not yet been cashed by the payee (therefore they wouldn’t appear on your bank statement yet).

Audit Requirements – there are so very many of them. You need to consult GAAP (Generally Accepted Accountancy Principles) which I know is a book but I don’t know if it is available on the internet. If it is you’ll probably need to pay for it – it’s a fairly hefty book!

As for integrated accounts systems – there are quite a few of them as well, which I doubt you’ll be able to get any free copies of. Sage is an example of an integrated system, but there are lots available. Google it so see what is out there.

EXCEL IS A SPREADSHEET.

Good luck with your interview, but it sounds as if you’re going in over your head!
