You are a brave man! But your question is legitimate.
The world was in shock over 9/11 - not because of the enormity of the target, but the fact that it actually happened on US soil. American politicians and media like to spin the story that it was an international event...but the reality is that it was just another terrorist bombing...like so many that have occured around the world. And in true American fashion, it was made out to be the biggest in the world. Loss of life is loss of life...no matter what borders contained the disaster. The fact that it happened on American soil did not make it any more of a disaster...it simply showed the world that the US is NOT impenetrable.
And as far as the invasion of Iraq...there is absolutely no connection between 9/11 and Iraq. The connection was with Afghanistan...but that mission was aborted before it was completed. Bush made noise about Saddam having a connection to the attack, but it was quickly proven to be a lie.

The war wasn't started by the WTC being destroyed (they weren't bombed, planes were flown into them. They were bombed in '93 I think). There was an attack on Kabul, Afghanistan on the night of 9/11, but that wasn't the start of the war. The war was started to stop the Taliban and terrorism from the middle east. Now the war is pretty much failing, and America has never been for the war really. I understand where you are coming from, there have been much worse acts of terrorism on other nations and other places, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't mind when someone blows our own planes into our own buildings. We are still in a war, and we are still in a mess. Do you not care about that? Everyone wants things to be hunky dory, but that's not the way the world works, sorry. Life is difficult, and you can either be positive about it, or you can bring people down all the time. If you're going to bring people down, then you might as well just go find a cave and live there the rest of your life, because people here don't want to hear it. If you don't like the way things are done, then try and fix it. If it is unfixable, like our government, then let it be or use your first amendment rights and assemble or petition to change things. you can't stop the war alone, and you can't change what has happened in the past.

It is just an excuse. Innocent people are killed in bombings all over the world everyday, but Americans don't seem to care. It has to be PERSONALIZED to them, if you know what I'm saying. I'm American too and I was in tears on 9/11, but the first thing I thought was, "What did Bush do????" and at the time, I wasn't even into politics like I am now. Was I the only one who found this whole thing to be a little odd? I'm not saying the government definitely had something to do with it, but I am certain they knew about it and let it happen anyway just for an excuse to invade Iraq. That's all they were waiting for! And it was easy considering how racist and unworldly many of my fellow Americans are. Iraq does not equal Saudi Arabia!!! But to racist rednecks, all those "hadjis" are the same right??? And I too am sick of people bringing up 9/11 as the reason why we are in Iraq and why I should be ashamed of myself for speaking out against the war becuase 3,000 people died. Well, you know what? I am ashamed that my country LET those 3,000 people die and is STILL killing even MORE people in Iraq in their "honor".
UUUUURRRRRRRGGGG!!!!

While it is true that many things or acts of terriorizims has happened all over the world...I don't think that is was major just because where it happened (well to a certain degree for different reason, I'll get to that later).
If something like the twin towers were to have happended anywhere else in the world IT would be major. The sheer number of people that died would have made it major else where in the world. But the fact that it happen to the Biggest Super power, who should have been more than capable to safe guard their saftey made it an even bigger event.
Should we have invaded Iraq....I don't think so...Saddam did not do it...Osama did IT to us. W presidency was dead in the water because he did not win the first term fair and square and he needed something to deflect attention off his presidency for sure. What have we gain...nothing we have lost thousand of young people to this war and have made the situaction ripe for Civil War in Iraq...the only thing keeping them in line was that they were scared to death of Saddam.

A two part question, and both of them are retarded.
The premise of your initial question is clearly false. Take the example of the 93 WTC bombing, the bombing of US embassies, the USS Cole, Khobar towers.
They were all "done to America". Were they "blown out of proportion"? I think not. If anything, they weren't taken seriously enough.
9-11 was a big deal because it was a spectacular attack on one of the world's greatest cities, and because it was only a matter of luck that casualties weren't in the tens of thousands.
The second premise, Iraq, is irrelevent.
Iraq didn't have anything to do with 9-11, and nobody ever said it did.
9-11 changed how we looked at failed states like Iraq, however.

1.) Because *you* happen to think the WTC bombing has been "blown out of proportion" doesn't mean it has been. If you think so, that's fine. I disagree with you.
2.) September 11 *was* used as a pretext to drive us into Iraq. In fact, even on September 11, that incompetent, syphilitic puppy Rumsfeld wrote a memo to that effect.
3.) Bush Sr. didn't want to "finish the job," because he accurately estimated that pursuing Saddam's army into Iraq would create a quagmire.

If you will recall, Clinton could have prevented a lot of this, BUT did he....NO, he did not. The Bushes are getting blamed for everything. Shame on you. As for being blown out of proportion. Do you think that the thousands of innocent people among those being babies and children being killed is being blown out of proportion. Get real. America does not stand by and ignore the fact, nor should we. What do you propose that we should have done. Kept our tails between our legs and pretend it didn't happen. I don't know what you Bush haters are driven by, but you need a reality check. God help the politically ignorant.

It was a strong psychological shock to the American Psyche.
Blown out of proportion? no idea, but NOT any reason or justification for the invasion of Iraq other then to show the rest of the World how little control Americans actually have over their governance, and how easily their governance can fool-mislead-SCARE them.

I second Megan N. Seriously you don't understand what happened and how many people were lost. Terrorist attacks are horrific where ever they occur and just because it doesn't take place in the US doesn't make it any less horrible, but when it happens close to home, it hits harder. I'm sorry you cant understand that.
