a risk assesment is where you assess all the risks of the job you are about to undertake but im not sure how to make one i think you just write down all the risks i.e like if there are overhead electricity cables there is a RISK of electricution. if your working on ladders/scaffolding there is a RISK you could fall.
hope this helps

A risk assessment is something you as an individual should do everytime you walk onto site.
Basically look at everything that you do and assess what dangers there are to you and your workmates. That is the basic level.
On a more formal scale there are written risk assessments that should be completed by a competent individual.
This subject is too long for YA so if you are concerned about safety on site contact the HSE and they will send round an inspector.

Employees generally don't get these, they're done by the employer for unemployment insurance (usually). If you're the employer, contact your insurance agent, he/she should be able to help you get this. OSHA will occasionally do one as well, to check for safety violations on job sites. They're really a pain in the neck (and other places as well...), but a necessary part of being in business.
The first person is right about what a risk assessment is though.
