Well here I was all prepped to answer your question, but zax above me answered very ably and no need for moi....
An annulment is not a 'Catholic divorce' proceeding. You have that divorce through secular/state you reside. And annulment is stating that the marriage was not sacramental, and to appear like going to divorce court is very, very rare. The only times those occur to best of my recollection is if one of the parties requests a review or protests--but usually those go to Rome, in fact I have never heard of a case in modern times where both parties appear anywhere together regarding annulment proceedings.
Everything is confidential. You could write that the ex was a raging homosexual and wore dresses around the house and I promise you no one would know except you (the petitioner), the tribunal and God, LOL ...so just tell the truth, okay? ;) You don't know what the other said, and vice versa.
Now, if you get an annulment, and you chose to marry again. It is the obligation of the priest marrying you to review those annulment papers to assure that everything is 'satisfactory' for whatever reason. Some annulments come back that say "Mentally deficient" which may sound insulting but means that they (the marriage tribunal issuing annulment) found that there was a lack of understanding of the sacrament of Marriage.
Be it they were too young, they were thinking of really not wanting to marry but did it because the family wanted it, they did not wish to have children, a host of things. That is the only thing that the respondent may know is the reason, i.e., "mentally deficient" but not the cause, okay?
Anyhooo... the priest will know and check it all out to be assured that this next time around all is well and be a happy, sacramental marriage.
Blessings~
Edit: I wish to counter Mommy, she is mistaken NO ONE SEES THE RESPONSES except the Tribunal. It is confidential, period.

My wife received an annulment so that we could be married Catholic. As far as I know annulment documents and proceedings a re confidential and remain the property of the Church's Curia. So the only ones who see every thing are the canon lawyers. Also respondent complete surveys when testifying about the marriage, they are not answer specific question concerning the the petitioners directly.
Not every annulment is openly heard by the tribunal. In my wife's case, she did not have to appear. But we also had the good fortune of having a canon lawyer conducting our wedding and marrying us.

Wow that's really weird. How did the divorce go? I will be anxious to hear responses from those who have been through this. I believe the respondent has a right o argue the annulment. So I believe they see the filing. I had entertained an annulment and I was told to get the respondent to say nothing and things would go much smoother. I never went through the process.

If the respondent has a cow a refuses to answer anything, guess what? ALL the tribunal has to go on is YOUR testimony and YOUR witnesses. It is actually good for you because it speaks to their character.
They are entitled to see your respones, and you theirs. That is only fair. I believe witness testimony is more confidential, but ask your advocate about that-0 he would know.
Usually, no one actually appears before the Tribunal except the advocates. that is their job.

definite. Catholicism would not know civil divorce. So without an annulment the previous marriage in no way ceased to exist, until eventually the death of the companion. that's what "until eventually death do us area" ability. as quickly as, the unique companion died, the guy formally grew to grow to be single in the eyes of the Church.

People who get annulments have a great ability at self-deception.
