The Red LED light goes on and my combi boiler goes off, so I am having to regularly reset the boiler. I have checked the pressure and it seams to be ok (at 1 – 1.5 bar). Anyone knows what is wrong?

It's an overload device which you usually reset by pushing the reset button.Had a similar fault on mine which was due to the isolator valve

I think your problem may be similar to mine: overheating in the boiler is tripping the overheat sensor.

In my case, this is being caused by scale build-up in the secondary heat exchanger that supplies hot water. I've just bought a replacement heat exchanger and am in the process of finding some genius with a pipe-wrench to come and do the transplant.

You don't mention what's happening prior to the boiler tripping. Are you using hot water, or just heating the place?

Search the net using the make and model of your boiler, for the instruction and maintenance sheet. (or if you already have them - check them out).

Sometime the rate of flash, or colour is a means of diagnosing the fault.

I did a quick search on " Boiler Diagnostic Led" and found the link below - as an example- (""Three LED status indicators for simple control & diagnostic functions "")

Hope this helps - good luck!

it sounds like an overheat problem without make/model and more details its hard to be objective. It could be a scaled up heat exchanger(is it making a roaring sound when the burners on). or a weak thermistor. Does it trip in heating mode or hotwater mode or both.

If your worried about being ripped off call the manufacturer. Most have service depts who will come and repair it and they will have most of the spares with them. Yes they charge but they are usually quick and fully warranty the repair.

My b/f is a plumber - it'll cost you though....!!
He says - give a little bit more detail like
1. how long's the boiler on before it goes off
2. how often is it going off
3. is it going off when hot water on, or when heating's on?
Give as much detail as you possibly can, then he can give you more ideas. You can't check gas pressure without a menometer!
