Polyamory only works if people can be complete honest with themselves and are secure enough to not see other people as a threat. Frankly I've been around this since the hippie days and I have yet to see it work in most relationships. But the fact that it does work for some people is enough to convince me that a good theory can overcome basic human failings.

I'm polyamorous and it works for me. My partners know about each other, more than that, they know each other. Quite a few of my friends are poly so they understand and don't have a problem with it.
I tend to love very intensely, so it's good that I'm poly really, the intensity probably hurt a previous monogamous relationship I was in.

I've seen my partners snog other people and that's fine, sometimes you wish you were the one being snogged, but it's not a problem if you're mature about it (immature people shouldn't be going anywhere near a serious relationship of any sort let alone a poly one). You know you're not being abandoned, they're simply enjoying someone else at that moment, and you know you're free to do the same.

Of course, you have to be that bit more careful with your sexual health, but that goes with the territory. Of course, kissing's quite safe, it's the sex that's more risky.

It's certainly better than cheating and betrayal, how many people cheat on their SO's? Too many.

Amorism

I believe in it in the sense that I believe it exists. It is simply a way for people to attempt to legitimize sexual license and rationalize in their minds their desire for illicit sexual gratification. Just because adults consent to do things to and with each other does not have any bearing on whether those things should be accepted and supported by the State.

There is a connection between polyamorism and "piligamy."
The connection is etymological. Both words refer to "many" partners by using the Greek prefix "poly," which would yield the spelling "polygamy."
