That's a question and a half! The queer community is so diverse (for those who are unaware 'queer' has been reclaimed and is used now as a positive word to describe all in the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community without having to go through that whole list!) Why not try something like this site to give you a bit of a start. http://www.planetout.com/news/history/ you can also post more questions here but you would need to refine your questions a little. Are you talking about the construction of queer identities in history or within current culture? Also, what do you mean by the performance of queer? I look forward to future posts.

Depending on where you live...you can call up your local gay community center and they will be able to provide you with assistance and resources. Also if you are in a major city go to the gayborhood....picking people off the street randomly to answer surveys as in field research would definately help your research. Also go to the Wikipedia.com that is an excellent course of information. Or just plain google whatever you are looking for. Also I would also go to your local bookstore or a bookstore chain---there are plenty of books on the subject matter that you are looking for. Oh and I forgot--=your local library is definately a fundamental place to start researching as well.

You heard of polari? It's a language gay sailors used in the 50s 60s and 70s so they could talk in front of straight people in private.
