I wouldn't say he's the dumbest, but I don't agree with what's happening. They have plenty of room to sign a couple of FA's or trade for some people. I feel the defense is shaping up and since they have played together for a couple of years, things should be good in the coming season on that front. Would be nice to have some more depth.
Offense is the problem right now. If you can turn the packers offense into an offensive powerhouse like it's been in the past, I feel that's the best way they can go.
So, in the end, yes, Thompson has not made me happy, but he hasn't sunk the ship yet.
And yes, Matt Millen is much much worse, hehe.

The Packers are in a bad position. They have an old QB who is no longer considered elite (but better than anything they could trade for), they traded away thei O-line last season and now have let their only quality RB go. This is definitely a transition team that needs to decide what its role is.
I applaud them for staying with Favre, because let's face it Brett Favre is the face of the Packers. No other player in its history (including Bart Starr) has single handedly carried this team for so long. This is Brett's team and as long as he wants to play Ted Thompson needs to support him.
Right now Ted Thompson needs to solidify his O line. Protect Brett so that he doesn't feel pressured into making mistakes. If they could land a Corey Dillon type back who still has a few years left that would be great. I expect AJ Hawk to step out this year and show that he will become the dominant defensive force in this division within a few seasons.
Ted Thompson dumbest, not by a long shot. Matt Millen is the reigning champ and he doesn't look to give up the title any time soon. What's the over/under on the number of receivers the Lions will take in this draft?

Dude, I don't know who you think was worth signing this year????? All I saw was overprice aging free agents. I would have been more ticked if he would have spent 80 million on Nate Clements. And so what if Moss is aging, if gets him on a conditional performance contract like he got with Woodson, I commend him. The only RB's available were either fumble or injury prone or just plain damn too old.
Ted Thompson is a greedy son of a *****. That is the kind of GM I want, he doesn't get caught up in this amazing cash give away the other teams are. So don't sell out our GM just yet. We don't have the same information that he has either.
Every day he doesn't trade for Randy Moss, the more leverage he gains. The Raiders have expressed they want Calvin Johnson. We are the only ones interested, so the longer we wait, the cheaper we get him. Sounds like a good strategy to me.
Edit: I agree Cato June is an above average linebacker, however that is where we have depth already. Hawk, Barnett, Poppinga, Hodge. It would have been a waste of money in my eyes.

I agree that Thompson needs to put more emphasis on free agency but i think the only position worth signing right now is running back. The packers have had some big success with the draft the last couple years but their offense has too many holes to put it all on the draft. I think they should have fought for Randy McMichael and maybe still try for Kevan Barlow. Randy Moss is a chump and if they signed him I might never watch football again.

Yeah, I've wondered that very thing myself. All that money and nobody getting paid. Now, I don't think they need to sign a crappy CB for $80million, but they need SOMETHING on defense. Cato June was just signed to Tampa, why didn't Green Bay chase him more, certainly they could have paid the man. But hey, as long as they draft better than they did in 2004 (Where none of the picks are on the team now) they can't do much worse than last year. I'm not even a Packer fan and I'm tired of teams not trying to build their teams up when they have the chance, and they're one of them.

He should be smarter. He's a draft GM, not a FA GM, but he needs certain positions filled that aren't gonna be available in the draft. I'm not happy no, but he has given us one of the best drafts from the Pack last year.
