First why would you buy a stick shift when you can't drive one? Second, it's a huge mistake to "s.hit where you eat" - meaning doing business with a friend or coworker is a huge mistake. You should mention this to the coworker now, because there is a "lemon law" that states someone can not knowingly sell you a bad car. Did he sell you the car "as is"? If so, there is nothing you can do about it. If he's an "okay" sort and really didn't mean to give you the shaft, he will agree to have the problem fixed. If he doesn't, you may have to sue him. Good luck.

This is why you never buy a car from someone that you know closely. It could be there's an air bubble in the cooling system and it needs to be bled. Take it to a mechanic. In the future, take your car to a competent mechanic to get inspected before you buy. If the owner won't let you; don't buy the car. The Sportage is a good vehicle; but even "babied" cars have their issues, and when you buy a used one you inherit someone else's troubles.

your car will not over heat due to the clutch.... it is more than likley something to do with the coolant. make sure u have some in the radiotor (when the car is cold) and check the reserve tank.... if the look alright check the piping for a leak.... if problems still exsist give it back to the guy... thats too many problems... and by law you can get your money back.... Good Luck

I'm sorry. You should have tried the car out before you bought it. He doesn't have to give you your money back unless there was some kind of contract signed. And maybe not even then. My advice: never buy a used Kia. They're not good vehicles. Only buy them new when you can get a warranty. And never buy from someone you know.

For sure its not your fault, over heating clutches don't over heat engines........Go to a mechanic you trust with the dude that sold you the car and have it looked at. If he ment to sell you a car in working order he should pay for what ever repairs it needs. Just don't wait to long......

why dont people check out a car befor they spend thousands..he seems willing to help..its not the clutch.maybe Radiator cap, coolant level, thermostate or waterpump...and if you are learning to drive a stick you will be buying a clutch very soon...A 2000 probly has origional clutch with 100000 miles on it.

If you bought as is no warranty you or stuck unless friend just gives money back. If you ride with foot on clutch pedal it will cause clutch to partially release, will burn out clutch and cause engine to run at higher rpm causing over heating. If you don't ride the clutch then it's either thermostat (cheap), water pump (not so cheap) or head gasket (don't ask).

first you should not think that the guy is doing you wrong just because there was a problem. he did try to fix it! he may not be a mechanic. if i were you i would ask that he makes it right and takes it in to get it fixed. if he will not. than he is a slime! but if he won't and you have to fix it i would say it needs a backflush and that is only if there is no fluid on the ground. if there is than you have a leak and you can also fix that on your own. .....good luck and god bless..........

He changed the thermostat? The engine overheating because of the clutch is ridiculous. check the fluid level in the radiator. Sounds to me like this guy is a slime and you should not believe another word he says.

This sounds like you have a head gasket problem, or a cracked head... and been had... in the future buy American cars.. Kia and Hyundai sound great with their 10yr 100,000 mi. warranty ... but the warranty is not transferable... this should tell you something...these cars "in my opinion" are junk...riping off the American public...Try to get your money back... Good Luck...
