My boyfriend is wanting to get a job working on a fishing boat....ya know, they go out for, like, a week or so at a time or whatever. He heard that they make pretty good money and he loves to fish, so why not do that, right?
I'm having a hardtime finding out info for him on jobs like this. I don't even know where to look or even what these people are called.
Any suggestions?

Don't live in Kansas, I actually live in Florida, about 5 minutes from the beach.

I just did a quick search on Indeed.com for "fishing" (without the quotes) and Florida, and it came up with 1,000 jobs in a variety of locations. Some appear to need licenses. This is the search results page - http://www.indeed.com/jobs?q=fishing&l=florida

Craigslist.org is a good place to check, also. http://geo.craigslist.org/iso/us/fl Craigslist is a giant online classified ads site, broken up by location. They have 17 Craigslists for Florida. Just pick the closest one, or check several. Look through both the "jobs" listed as well as the "gigs" (short-term jobs).

Craigslist takes a little getting used to, but it's worth the effort. Job-Hunt.org's Guide to Using Craigslist to Find a Job will help - http://www.job-hunt.org/onlinejobsearchguide/article_guide_to_craigslist.shtml

Good luck!

Don't know where you live, but I wouldn't start my job search in Kansas.
If you go to any ocean port you will find lots of fishing boats there, you go to them and ask about jobs,, and keep asking. They are going to be like anyone else, they will hire someone with experience first. They are sometime out to sea several days at a time, they don't want some newbee crying for his Mommy all that time or not working and pulling his weight. so he may have to work on the docks for awhile to show he is a good worker. But you won't find a lot of fishing boats in Kansas.

Go down to the docks when the boats come in and ask for the captain... or look in the local fish markets
