Because a girl with female athlete triad is simultaneously exercising intensely and not eating enough calories, when her weight falls too low, she may experience decreases in estrogen, the hormone that helps to regulate the menstrual cycle. As a result, a girl's periods may become irregular or stop altogether. Of course, it is normal for teen girls to occasionally miss periods, especially in their first year of having periods. A missed period does not automatically mean a girl has female athlete triad. A missed period could mean something else is going on, like pregnancy or a medical condition. If you have missed a period and you are sexually active, talk to your doctor.

Some girls who participate intensively in sports may never even get their first period because they've been training so hard. Other girls may have had periods, but once they increase their training and change their eating habits, their periods may stop.

This is some handy information i found on the internet for you, I had heard of this before but didn't know how to explain it properly, so basically intense exercise reduces the female hormone estrogen their for she may miss her period or stop all together until exercise is ceased. This is common for a lot of olympic athletes, There was one case where this female runner from Austria was on track for a race and cause she had obviously stopped mensturating for some time she was not prepared and started her period before this particular race, the poor girl was very embaressed but of course she had nothing to be ashamed of. That's how i remember this topic. So I strongly believe you have nothing to worry about and you will be fine, maybe just carry around some protection with you just incase your period starts unexpectadly. Keep well and i hope that was informative , I know this is for your friend but just relay the info or show it to her if concerned, thankyou have a great day

I know for a fact that exercise does not effect your period, My wife is a doctor. However, not eating properly and worse, starving yourself will effect and sometimes even stop your period altogether. This is a serious situation and it needs to be addressed right away.
