Check out www.salary.com. You can get a pretty good idea of what the industry standard for your area and level of experience is, and that will help you have a number in mind if you get asked that question.
Remember though, never ask THEM what the salary is before you've been offered the position. It's bad form for the interviewee to bring up money.

If you are applying for a managers position then your answer would be ' what the standard for that industry would be '. There is quite a salary diff between a Burger King managers salary and a Bank of Canada manager's .salary. Entry level positions usually are set anyway so find out what these positions pay before you go for an interview----- unless you are independantly wealthy.

Just check out the company profile and then tell the expected salary after knowing the wages these people provide. U need to take care that they should not exploit u on the basis of salary and work load.

Every organaisation have some norms in salary.
usually u can ask 33% more than ur current salary.
if ur current salary is less check out the salary range in their company before attending the interview and ask that salary+some thousands.
if you are very strong in technical just ask more they will bargain and you will get best in industry,

I would answer that I really would like the job, and the salary is important but not at the top of the list. I don't want to be overpaid, nor underpaid. Then turn the question back to them and ask what is the salary?

Know what the average salary for the position in the industry then ask for what you want. You can negotiate from there.
Or you can always state up front that it is negotiable.
If you have no experience do not expect that they will pay you the top wage. Be reasonable.

respectfully decline to answer about specific salary until they make an offer for employment
their offer should include a dollar amount that they are willing to pay, but at that point you should let them know if you were expecting something more
