Which is the better way to unplug a USB drive from the PC:

1. Right-click on the removable drive and select "EJECT"
2. Open the "SAFELY REMOVE HARDWARE" icon from system tray and follow the instructions in the dialog that ensues.

Any advise folks?

Thanks,
Arvind.

Eject is for removable media like CD's, DVD's,Floppy Disk, Zip Disk.
Safely remove hardware is pretty much for anything pluged into your computer through usb, like External CD/DVD drives, USB Drives etc

Correct me if i am Wrong. Do we get the Eject Option when we right click a Pen Drive which is showing in My Computer.

As far as my knowledge goes the Eject Option would be present only for CD/DVD Drives.

Safely Removing Hardware is the best option. This would shut down the device before its removed.

Still need some clarifications/comments please get back to me.

No difference. People are just dumb and try to make it more complicated. However, I would generally use the "Safely Remove Hardware," because that 100% ensures that everything on your USB stays there. It will make sure you do not lose any files, although it shouldn't be a problem either way.

the results is the same. You can eject a USB device and it will be safe to remove.
