NO contraceptive has a 100% success rate.

Anytime people have sex, a pregnancy can result. I've known of couples using more than one method of birth control and still getting pregnant.

It's something we should all keep in mind.

I have also had an IUD for two years now. I have the Mirena, which lasts for 5 years. I must say I've been quite sexually active and have not even had a pregnancy scare. But as previously stated, no contraceptive can 100% prevent a pregnancy.

This is something you should've learned in sex ed, and heard MANY times since then...there is NO 100% protection against pregnancy except abstinence.

ANY current form of birth control used has a possibility of pregnancy...that includes IUDs, the pill, the patch, the ring, the implant, the injection, the rhythm method, condoms, and anything else you can think of. Some forms/methods have higher rates of pregnancy than others.

IUDs are an effective method and convenient in that they are inserted and last a long time...but there's always a chance they can fail you.

Talk to your doctor about the best method for you and the side effects of each...if you have an IUD and think it failed, see your doc immediately re:how to proceed.

I have had one now for 2 years- and nothing has happened yet. But there is always that small possibility. But the IUD doe have the highest protection rate- so it's not very likely.

The answer is yes. I knew someone who did & they had to leave the device in her uterus until the baby was born which was a concern throughout her pregnancy.
