I'm making some silver jewelry and it calls for 20 gauge jump rings with an inside diameter of 3mm. Most places sell them by outside diameter measurements.

Does anyone know of a handy online conversion chart? Or a mathematical formula I could use?

Thanks in advance!

Assuming you are using round wire (I have used square wire for j-rings), 20 gauge wire is .8mm. You might just want to look at riogrande.com. Their catalog also provides a pretty complete list of measures. Live help is also offered on their site.

The formula is very simple:
Outer diameter = inner diameter + 2 x wire diameter.
The wire adds its diameter to the radius, hence the above result.
If you need to convert gauge to mm and inches to be able to sum everything, here is a link to a good gauge-inch-mm conversion table:

Make Something (www.MakeSomething.net) sells jump rings by the inside diameter. The quality is great and shipping is super-fast.

What i would do is take a caliper with you to the jump ring store and measure the inside with the calipers till you find the ones that will work. and you might think about just making the jump rings yourself. If you would like more help contact me through my e-mail. pablo@jumpsinternational.com
