Too broad a question. Many places in the Middle East are perfectly safe for foreigners to go. Saudi Arabia, Kuwaiti, Dubai, United Arab Emeritus and Turkey are all great places to go and be perfectly safe. Some places have a small amount of risk. Israel, Lebanon, and Egypt are mostly safe but have a slight risk due to Radical Islam followers. Then there are places to avoid Iran, Iraq, and Syria I would avoid at all costs for a vacation destination.

Some of these answers are pretty good, some not.

The one where the person writes about how they are so far behind the west reminds me of when I was living in Japan. I picked up a replacement at the airport and before we arrived at our base, the idiot looked around and said "Look at all the foreigners". I told him I only saw one. He told me the streets were crowded with foreigners and I was either blind or stupid. I told him, the only foreigner I saw was him. He did not open his mouth the rest of the ride.

The middle east is another part of the world. I would not want to go if there was a McDonald's on every corner with a 7 - 11 next to it. The purpose of traveling to another country is to see how others live and maybe learn something from them. If I had the opportunity to further my knowledge about other cultures, I would be on the next plane.

I wonder what's the point of your question! Do you sense something dangerous there that you want to test our courage? Many great men and women came from the middle east and they were really to be admired. One can be great no matter where one comes from. Its the dignity within oneself that counts. If there was a call to the middle east why should I turn it down!

The middle east is pretty big ... Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Somalia, Syria, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.

I’ve been to the Middle East. Halliburton is moving its headquarters there. Lots of Americans visit there or go to work there every day. What is the exact point of your question?

I would go anywhere in the middle east. You can be killed just as easily in the US. I would probably get arrested in Saudi Arabia for refusing to cover my head. I would still be willing to go.

I have and was disappointed. It is hot and dry and dirty. They are behind us about fifty to a hundred years. They don 't like us and they only want a hand out or worse, to kill you. I personally think it should be turned into a nice piece of glass.
