I have been taking oral contraceptives for some time and I realized that there are two types: (1) 21 days tablets (2) 28 days tablets. The ovulation cycle normally takes 28 days. If you are taking #1, after completing 21 days, there is a 7-days interval of NO PILLS and your period is supposed to take place at this 7-day period. You must start with a fresh pack on the 7th day, weather or not you are still bleeding. However, you must stop the contraceptive if you did not get your period w/in these days, and must see your Gyn as pregnancy could have taken place.

On the other hand, there are oral contraceptives that you can take even if you have your period. There is no interval and the PILLS is continously taken even if you are having your period.

I still suggest that you go back to your Gyn for consultation on this matter, as contraception is a very personal thing. The doctor is the only best person to know which of the methods will work best for you, as some tablets are meant to be more effective than others, and some can really give you mood swings and increased appetite.

Good Luck! :)
