There are 1000g in a kg because kilo means 1000 so that's also a way of remembering it, just don't get it mixed up with milligrammes because that is a 1/1000 of a gramm

Kilo means 1000. So 1000 metres in a Kilo-metre.
1000 grammes = 1 kilogramme.
Every where you see or hear the prefix KILO you have a thousand of them. Kilo volt is another.

As everyone else has pointed out to you already, "kilo" means 1000 therefore there are a 1000 GRAMS in a kilogram. There is no such thing as a "gramme" as far as I am aware.
