Because they are Protestants making a political statement. Green is not just a color for Catholics, it's the color representing Ireland and patriotism for country.

The color orange is worn by Irish (or more properly Northern Irish) protestants. Green is worn by Catholics. Its part of the old political battles in Ireland. The Irish were forbidden to wear green at one point by the British during their rule. The orange men supported the British.

My grandparents were orange Irish. Protestant. I still wear orange, in honor of Grandma.
