He influenced others to play basketball by instinct and passion more than you play it by fundamentals.

He influences every young player in the NBA. He was the NBA through the 90's. Every young player wants the big Nike Air Jordan shoe deal. Im sure he has more influence over his Charlotte Bobcat players than others.

His influence is seen accross the entire league, especially with the two (shooting guard) position. The player that has the most similar game to MJ is Kobe Bryant. Bryant may not admit it, but his game is modeled to MJ's to a tee. From his jump shot stroke to his interview skills. Other players like Tracy McGrady, Paul Pierce, Jason Richardson, LeBron James, and Dwayne Wade all have similar skills to Jordan. Jordan revolutionized the very foundation of a basketball team. Before MJ, a good team had to have 3 or 4 all-stars to win a championship. MJ did it with 1 good sidekick and a bunch of role players. Anyone that takes more than 20 shots per game is trying to carry their team in the same manner. Jordan revolutionized the marketing of the game and its products. From sneakers to soft drinks to underwears, MJ "made" a lot of companies. Jordan is also credited for starting the long shorts craze (they weren't as long as they are today) and wildly colored sneakers. He is the ultimate superstar who trancends the game of basketball. People who don't know an ounce of basketball knows the name Michael Jordan. That's what most professional athletes strive for in their public image. Very few in the history of US sports have achieved this. (Only Mohamed Ali comes to mind). That is the long lasting influence that MJ will have on basketball, sports, and history.
