I tried to breastfeed my first, but then she got jaundice and when she was five days old the doctor's told me that I did not have enough milk for her. So, I bottle fed her. Then with my second and third, I chose to bottle feed from the beginning. My children are and have been healthy. Formula's are getting closer and closer to being just like mother's milk. They have all the vitamins and minerals that babies need to be healthy and strong. Just hold the baby close while feeding him or her...never prop the bottle. As long as you show the baby all the love and affection that breast fed babies get that is what counts. It is not how you choose to feed that makes you a good or bad mother. There are other advantages of bottle feeding as well. It is easier to go out, or even just have some one else feed the baby when you need to do something else or just have a break...it is more convenient when out in public, it will be easier if you need to send him to daycare when he is little.

I tried breastfeeding my first and I hated it. I felt like a milk machine. Breastfeeding is not for everyone!
I chose not to breastfeed my next two kids at all, and they are very healthy, happy, and intelligent.
I am strongly in favor of women choosing what they want to do with their own breasts. Why should anyone else dictate to us how we use our bodies?
That is why I support a woman's right to breastfeed or bottlefeed as she sees fit.
However, I do not understand the breastfeeding fanatics who feel that they have to force every other woman to breastfeed, and who look down on women who decide NOT to use their breasts for feeding purposes.
In my local mother-and-baby clinic, there is a sign up that reads "Breast milk is the greatest gift that a woman can give her child". Gee, I thought that LIFE was the greatest gift -- or does that not count for anything? How about love, care, and support from infancy till adulthood? How about the gift of having a mother who is happy?
Breastfeeding did not make me happy.

About 15-25% choose not to breastfeed, due to choice, personal or medical issues.

i know of a few. their babies are healthy and content.
i was only able to breastfeed for 3 weeks and in that period i also had to supplement with formula because i didn't produce enough milk. i have hypothyroidism which causes some woman to produce very little milk.
believe me formula feeding is just as hard as breastfeeding. there was like a million brand names to choose from. than there was the finding of a good bottle. there was the plain old fashioned bottles, than u have brand names like advent, gerber. than u have the different shapes of the bottles. than comes choosign the nipples. and u need to know when to buy new nipples. than u need to make the formula and make sure its at the right temperature. than if its taking u too long to make the formula the baby is over there bawling his head off because he is so hungry and can't wait.

How sad that some women and their babies miss out on breastfeeding because of misinformation.
Please, please, if your pregnant and thinking about this topic, by all means talk to you rsisters, mothers, aunties friends etc. But also think about how long they breastfed for, the possible reasons why it may not have worked out as they hoped, what learning did they do to prepare, what they would do different, etc
Studies have shown that most women will listen to the other women closest to them about breastfeeding rather than seeking out people that have had the sort of experience that they want to have.
So if you are in the position where you haven't got a lot of info from a broad range of women then keep looking until you are truly happy that you have all the info and points of view. Then you can make an informed decision.
And to the women who keep writing that you can't tell how much they have had well no you can't exactly but, babies will let you know if they're hungry - so feed them! If they have wet nappies, and a positive growth trend then don't stress. Trust your body, this is what breast are made for!!!

I honestly believe breastfeeding is not for everyone. YOU have to decide if you want to do it. I myself tried with all 3 kids and it didn't work, and yes i did put my heart and soul into it. Sometimes it just doesn't work. It does require a lot of time and effort and if you are a first time mom this can be overwhelming at times. I think it basically comes down to if you want to do it or not. You can try it to see if it works and if it does great!!! If not then oh well, you can say you tried. There are plenty of good formulas out there for babies and they work just as well in my eyes. My kids turned out great and healthy to boot!!!! Good luck no matter what you decide!!

Most of the ones I know who tried gave up because of the pain when your nipples are adjusting to being used like that. My sis-in-law quit because it was easier to have her 9-year-old make a bottle. Another was anemic and couldn't produce the milk. My mother-in-law believed it was unhealthy and tried to ban me from her house as long as I was breastfeeding (Until her son informed her that would mean not seeing him or her grandchildren for at least 1 year). Bottle-feeding is still the majority

Most women breastfeed. Those who do not isn't necessarily because they choose not to. For some women, they don't produce enough milk to feed their child.

I did not breastfeed my baby from the source because it made both of us miserable. She would cry, I would cry. It was terrible. So, I decided to pump and feed her that way. It was double the work, but she still got the good nutrients and antibodies from the breastmilk. She went to formula at 2.5 months old.
