One day, perhaps, astronomers may find a planet in another solar system capable of sustaining life and suitable for human colonization. I'm just curious...besides "Earth 2", what would you name it, and why? Would you follow the custom of naming planets after classical gods / goddesses, etc.?

A good name for that planet could be Tomorrow (I guess it's self-explanatory why).

Usually, we name planets after classical gods but this database of names is not unlimited. Just think about it, these names have been used for any known object in the Solar System: asteroids, craters, planet mountains, satellites, etc. So for this object a new naming convention might be needed.

I'd go for "Idavoll", which is the name of the meadow in Asgard that's left standing after the great battle of Ragnarok, as it's symbolic of the birth of a new world.
It's not quite in keeping with the classical theme, but still keeps to the mythology trend.

The names of gods and godesses are good but I would prefer something different.
I would say to name it with the name of the man who has discovered that planet.
Or with something symbolic like "Peace" that has never been achieved on earth.

Well, what kind of personality does the planet have? I like the god and goddesses themed names, and if it's a little Mars-like but habitable, I like "Barsoom".

It would be named by the convention for all other extra-solar planets.
