My son recently weaned himself from nursing. How many ounces and how many bottles a day do most infants this age take? I've been giving him a 2-4oz bottle at each meal, one in between breakdast and lunch, one in between lunch and dinner and one at bedtime. His bedtime bottle is about 8oz. Does that sound right? Thanks for the input!

Sounds about right.. Similac's website says: 3-4 feedings in 24 hours, 7-8 oz average per feeding or 21-32 oz per day..

That sounds right, My son has cereal and some fruit in the morning and about an hour or so later he has a 4oz bottle. Same thing with lunch and dinner and he has about an 8oz or 12 oz bottle at bedtime depending on how much he had for dinner.

By 6 months, your baby's formula intake can be between 24 to 32 ounces.

Your baby's diapers are a good indicator of when your baby is getting plenty to eat. You'll probably be changing at least six wet and four dirty (soiled or "poopy") diapers each day at first. Wet diapers should have clear or very pale urine. If you see orange crystals in a wet diaper, contact your baby's doctor - these can be a sign of inadequate fluid intake or dehydration.

Other possible signs of underfeeding include:

-face that doesn't seem to be filled out (this may signal inadequate weight gain)
-seeming unsatisfied, even after a complete feeding

At 6-8 months the suggestion is that baby try to nurse either every 3-4 hrs or take 24-37 oz of formula. Remember that at 7 months old, formula and/or breast milk are still his main source of nutrition! It sounds like he's drinking as suggested.

You can visit this site for "sample" menus for babies. One thing about charts and menus is that they are suggestions and not to be followed in a strict fashion. All babies will eat differing amounts at different times; and that's more than likely just the right amount for that baby :-)

Hi! At that age my son had 4 7oz bottles a day, and 3 small meals with a sipper cup of water.
What you are doing sounds fine! Really, whatever works for you and your son is all that matters. It sounds like he is getting plenty of nutrition and fluids and thats good. Keep up the good work!

Your best bet is to check with your pediatrician. Your food description sounds like it is enough but, it also depends on your child's weight and other factors. My suggestion is to call your doc. or a local health clinic. good luck!

If your child seems satisfied... If he is gaining wait and growing appropriately, then you're fine. You're doing a great job!
