Unix is a server opearting system
Linux is a user operating system
to make it close to your mind
Unix is liks MS-DOS while Linux is like MS-Windows

the big differnce is in the interface one using command and other one use GUI interface and sure is more easy to use

Linux is based on Unix. The difference is Linux is open source, which allows the creation of many different versions. I believe it also has a different kernel. Basically if you can do it in Unix, you can do it in Linux. Linux has also a better graphic interaction with the user compared to Unix.

UNIX was developed in the 1960s @ Bell Labs. Most Linux systems are either derived from UNIX or are at least UNIX-like.
