Kobe 45% career shooter, 43% in playoffs.
MJ 49% career, 48% in playoffs.
Kobe 18.6 shots per game average over his career.
MJ 23.3 shots per game in his career.
This should mean that MJ is more of "ball-hog" than Kobe as far as TRUE stats are concerned.
I am not implicating that Kobe is better than MJ was. I'm just tired of hearing all this "Kobe is a ball-hog" crap.

ED V - Kobe and MJ run the same offense and are in the same position in that offense. Shaq put up better numbers when he was with Kobe. So you cant say that Kobe hogged the rock from Shaq. Kobe has nobody else to help him so he has to take over the game by himself. Either way you look at it is if Kobe 's a ball hog then MJ was just as bad.
P.S. - Gary Payton is never happy no matter who he is playing with or where hes playing. If he aint getting the pub then hes mad.

Mr. Hat - Nice answer to the question, but there is nothing in here that asked you to compare TD and Kobe. thanks though. Duncan plays around the rim and Kobe plays perimeter game. Many, many, many, big men have better shooting percentages than guards, as they should. Not a very good comparison.

NOTE THAT KOBE HAS AVERAGED OVER 5 ASSISTS A GAME IN HIS LAST 8 SEASONS. PRETTY GOOD. I NOTICED ALOT OF PEOPLE SPEAKING OF MJ'S ASSISTS BUT NOBODY WANTS TO TALK ABOUT KOBE'S.

MATRIX HAS LOST HIS MIND. Lamar Odom as good as Pippen. No way in hell. Pippen is one of the 50 greatest of all time. Odom plays 100% maybe half of the game. He loafs around if you just watch him you'll see. You are on crack if you think that Kwame Brown, Luke Walton, Lamar Odom, and Smush Parker are even in the same category as Cartwright, Grant, Kukoc, and Ron Harper. You need to be evaluated.

Why? Because people are so delusional that instead of owning up to their strange jealous-filled hatred for Kobe, they lie to themselves and come up with ridiculous ruses for their stupidity.
This is what HIS COACH Phil Jackson said after Kobe's 50-point game on Sunday:
"We talked about going to Kobe early in games and not waiting," coach Phil Jackson said. "He had been playing the team role, feeling the game out and waiting 'til the second half to get going. But there's just not enough time right now in the season to develop that."
So instead of acknowledging the fact HIS COACH IS TELLING HIM TO SHOOT MORE, and that HE IS DOING WHAT HIS COACH WANTS, they blame the player.
Brilliant.

It's true that Kobe currently holds a lower FGA per game ratio than Mike, but you might want to consider that Kobe didn't start his first few years in the league. Coming out of high school, his minutes (and there fore his shot attempts) were limited. If you discount his years where he wasn't a starter, his shots per game average climbs into the 20's, but remains lower than Mike's.
The larger answer to your question is that Kobe's perception of being a ball hog came from two sources.
First of all, unlike Kobe, Michael never played with a player like Shaquille O'Neal. MJ was the undisputed primary scoring threat for the Bulls. Shaquille's presence on the Lakers forced the question of who gets the most looks and many times, fans the media and coaches sided with Shaquille.
Secondly, Kobe himself has something to do with it. As a young player, Kobe (like many high school all-stars trying to adjust to the NBA) had a tendency to play out of the offense. In his second season, Bryant averaged only 25 minutes a game, yet still put up 913 shots to average 15 points a game. Compare that to Tim Duncan who as a starter in 2005 played 35 minutes a game put 1185 shots and average 20 points a game.
Yes, it was a long time ago, and Kobe has grown as a player since then. It may not always be fair, but his actions early in his career, coupled with his feud with Shaquille O'Neal left him with the "ball hog" label. He is starting to get away from that, but many doubt that he has the patience to play within an offense with midling talent for long stretches of time. Only time will tell if that perception plagues him for the rest of his career, or is lifted by winning another championship.

MJ was allowed to be a ball hog because he is the only reason the Bulls won all the championships and had the best record ever in 95-96. Kobe is a ball hog because he doesn't pass at all and MJ had a lot of double and triple doubles throughout his career.MJ had better players on his team and Kobe really doesn't

Firstly, MJ's career started out with a 28 or 29 ppg average. He came out of college "shooting" for a lack of a better word. Kobe spent his first few years on the bench. That's why you see the difference in average shots taken in their career. The biggest difference between Kobe and MJ (because they are very, very similar in every aspect of their games) is the fact that MJ has won 6 championships with pretty much the same team Byrant has now. Bryant has a great teammate in Lamar Odem. Odem is as similar a player to Scottie Pippen as Bryant is to Jordan. MJ was able to utilize Pippen and bring the best out of him. Bryant makes Odem stand around and render his and everyone else's skills almost useless. Here are the make up of MJ's championship teams: 1 superstar, 1 all-star, and a whole bunch of role players. He made Steve Kerr the best 3 point shooting player in NBA history. He brought the best of out the pyschotic Dennis Rodman. He made average players like Horrace Grant and BJ Armstrong look really, really good. MJ never had a decent center to play with. He brought the best out of the "Three headed monster", centers who couldn't even warm benches for other teams. He made everyone on his team better. THIS is why he is not a ball hog. Bryant is looked as a ball hog because he puts up great numbers at the expense of his teammates and his ball club.

The reason why Kobe considered a ball-hog and MJ not, because of the teams they on. For example, Micheal Jordan, was a team player in situations that helped the team with Pippen, Hopper, Grant, Kurd, and them for scoring. But! In situations when the team couldn't provide, MJ, had to step up to carry the team. Don't get it wrong. The team had deadly arsenals that can win the game. It's that the team relied on MJ to take them home. Even thou MJ was called a ball-hog he had a squad.
On a the other hand, Kobe Bryant, a ball-hog? He has to be, because nobody on his squad can't povide like the Bulls did when they had MJ. I feel ya on that! But! Look, man! Kobe had to be the ball-hog if he wanted his team to win. That's right! His team! Nobody on that team can't even step up to the challenge to win the game for the team. But, I can tell you this much without Kobe Bryant, they can't win and they do go down without a fight. They tough to beat, but with Kobe they got the edge. I hope these can answer your question, see ya!

If MJ took a lot of his shots in his career, remember that in the 80's and early 90's, Jordan *really* had to take a lot of shots for his team to have a chance to win. He had no one really reliable to pass the ball to, no one dominant like Shaq.. But when he got better teammates, he started getting some triple doubles and average around 6 to 8 assists per game. He showed his faith in guys like Pippen and they became All-Stars partly because of that.
On the other hand, Kobe at his best has a particular style of play - call it playground hoops if you will - which calls on him to dominate possession of the ball and just jack up shot after shot, or pass the ball only when he really has absolutely no chance to take it. It never was really like that with MJ: even in the games he would take 30 shots or more, it was generally within flow of triangle offense, and it was just in last three minutes or so when he really had to take over a game that he would do one on one.
If you watch Jordan games from the past, you would notice that a lot - maybe half or more - of his baskets actually came from assists from teammates. Fasbreak dunks, open jumpers, alley-hoops, etc. Whereas most of Kobe field goals really do come from one on one moves, even as early as the 1st quarter.
Also, Jordan's teammates - including the 1992 Dream Team - loved playing with him. It seems that a number of Kobe's teammates have had issues with playing alongside him (guys like Shaq and Gary Peyton certainly did) because they felt he wants to" hog the ball" too much.
If Jordan ever had played with a teammate as dominant as Shaq was in his prime, someone to pass the ball to, he wouldn't have taken as many shots as he did, and would pass the ball to Shaq more than Kobe did. Kobe insisted on being the "main man" of the Lakers' offense although he had young Shaq as a teammate!
When a young teammate of Kobe develops as an All-Star playing alongside Kobe, maybe that's when Kobe will stop being called a ballhog. Whether that's fair or not.

good, it is a difficult one considering that they all hogged the ball plenty. however the change used to be that wilt and mj hogged the ball for the betterment of the workforce. kobe he simply hogs simply to hog. Wilt averaged 50 features according to recreation one season, I imply that is lovely loopy, and 30 features according to recreation in the course of his profession. MJ additionally averaged 30 features according to recreation in the course of his profession, however additionally he gained 6 championships and used to be regarded the quality participant to ever play. When you seem at kobe and his championships, he gained them with shaq. So the reply is lovely difficult, however MJ is certainly now not the reply, I imply did not he holiday a list for essentially the most assists in a profession or anything for the chicago bulls?

The only reason they call him that is because of the shots he takes and if he did not shoot the ball the Lakers would lose. The Lakers need Kobe to shoot a lot so they can play well.
